RADON: Radon is a colorless, odorless radioactive gas from uranium under the ground that seeps into homes through cracks in the foundation. The amount of radon depends on soil chemistry which varies from one house to the next. The amount of radon that comes from the soil depends on weather, soil porosity, soil moisture and suction within the house.
The EPA recommends that every home have this test. It is a cancer causing agent. The lungs are usually affected. Smokers have a 20 times stronger chance of getting lung cancer with radon in the home than a non smoker.
This machine sits in the home for a 48 hour period and the results give an average of radon for that period.
MOLD: We all have mold in our homes to a certain degree. It is the amount and the type that is detrimental. An air sampling test can be conducted and it will let you know the types of mold and the mold spore count. A lab here locally determines those figures. It is usually back from the lab within 3 business days. It is recommended that those who have asthma or anyone susceptible to mold have this test. Please call if you have questions on this test.
METHAMPHETAMINE: As you have probably heard in the media, meth is a problem here in Utah. You cannot always tell when meth is in a home. This test is optional if you are concerned about the home you are buying.
Please ask the inspector if you have questions concerning lead or asbestos.
